The first few months: agreements, approvals, and planning
After signing, the early months focus on finalising the site, securing the approvals a school needs to legally operate, which vary by country and, in India, by state, and confirming the grade by grade rollout plan. Because most schools open with early years and grade 1 rather than the full K to 5 span, this stage also sets the year by year expansion plan.
Mid stage: facility readiness and curriculum setup
Classrooms, outdoor space, and materials are prepared to OPPI's facility and classroom design requirements, while the school works through the curriculum and quality assurance onboarding that OPPI provides to every new affiliate.
Final stretch: hiring, training, and admissions
In the last 3 to 4 months before opening, the school completes its teacher recruitment and sends new staff through initial Finnish pedagogy training. Admissions and parent communication typically ramp up in parallel, since families are usually deciding several months ahead of the academic year.
After opening: the first year
Launch is not the end of the process. OPPI's first year support covers classroom observation, feedback, and adjustment as the school settles into a genuine Finnish pedagogy rhythm rather than a surface level version of it.
Schools that rush teacher training to hit an opening date usually spend the whole first year correcting it. Building in real training time before day one is worth the delay.

Can a school open faster than 9 months?
It is possible if the building is already fit for purpose and local approvals are already in place, but compressing teacher training below a minimum standard is not recommended, since it is the single biggest factor in whether a school actually delivers Finnish pedagogy rather than just its branding.
Does OPPI require all grades to launch at once?
No. Most affiliated schools launch with early years and grade 1 and add one grade each subsequent year, which is also easier to staff and fund than opening a full K to 5 school on day one.
What causes the most delay in practice?
Facility approvals and construction timelines are the most common source of delay, more often than curriculum or teacher training, which is why planning the building and the approvals process early matters more than almost anything else.
